Conquering the Yorkshire Three Peaks for the Scientific Exploration Society
07 November 2025
On Saturday, 20th September, Chris Huffen, one of our UK Hose Group Directors, joined a dedicated team of walkers to take on the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge in support of the Scientific Exploration Society (SES).
The event, organised by Jeremy Fish, CEO of Ardent Hire Solutions, one of our valued customers, brought together an incredible mix of participants united by a shared goal: to raise vital funds for SES and its work empowering young explorers and environmental researchers around the world.
Despite challenging weather conditions with heavy rain the night before, steady showers in the morning, and even more rain later in the day, it almost became a charity swim rather than a walk! The team completed the 24-mile route, scaling Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough, in 10 hours and 20 minutes and collectively raised an impressive £20,000 for this inspiring cause.
Founded in 1969 by Colonel John Blashford-Snell, SES provides grants and bursaries for scientific research and exploration projects that protect endangered species, preserve indigenous knowledge, and support conservation initiatives across the globe. The Society also funds the SES-Raleigh Explorer Bursary Award, which gives underserved young people aged 17-25 the opportunity to join fully funded expeditions to destinations such as Costa Rica, South Africa, and Borneo.
“It was one of the toughest charity walks I’ve ever done but an incredible experience. The rain never seemed to stop, yet the team spirit and determination carried us through. It was a privilege to take part alongside so many passionate people supporting such a worthy cause.”
A huge thank you goes to Jeremy Fish and everyone at Ardent Hire Solutions for organising such a well-run and inspiring event.
