A failing cylinder doesn’t just slow you down — it stops your machine entirely.

Hydraulic cylinders and RAMs are at the heart of your machine’s lifting, pushing, and tilting functions. When seals fail, rods wear, or tubes corrode, the whole machine is out of action. The longer it sits, the more it costs. UK Hose provides a fast, professional repair service — we come to you, fix what can be fixed on the spot, and take away what needs workshop attention.

Our Cylinder & RAM Repair Process

Some repairs can be done on the spot. Others need workshop equipment. Either way, we handle everything.

01

Contact Us

Call us or fill in the enquiry form. Tell us about the machine, the problem, and your location. We’ll confirm the right regional team for you.

02

We Come to Site

A UK Hose engineer attends your site and assesses the cylinder or RAM. If it’s a seal issue, we take the measurements needed to source the correct seal kit and return to carry out the reseal on-site — no need to remove the unit.

03

Off-Site Repair

If the fault is more significant — a worn rod, damaged tube, or full reconditioning needed — we remove the cylinder or RAM and take it to our nearest regional facility. Our technicians strip, inspect, and rebuild it to OEM specification. Most off-site repairs are turned around within 2–3 days.

04

Return & Reinstall

Once repaired off-site, we bring the unit back to your site and reinstall it on the machine. We handle collection and delivery.

05

Test & Sign-Off

Whether the repair was on-site or off, we test the machine under working conditions before we leave. The job isn’t complete until both the engineer and your site contact are satisfied everything is working correctly.

Cylinder & RAM Repairs, Large and Small

Our engineers assess the fault on site and carry out the right repair. Seal replacements are done on-site once we’ve measured and sourced the correct parts. More significant damage — rods, tubes, full rebuilds — is handled at our regional facilities and returned to site within 2–3 days

On-Site Reseal

Our engineer measures the cylinder seals on site, sources the correct seal kit, and carries out the replacement — no need to remove the unit from the machine. All seal replacements are done at your location.

Rod Replacement

Worn, bent, scored, or pitted piston rods replaced to OEM specification. Carried out at our regional facility. Prevents seal damage and restores full cylinder stroke.

Tube / Barrel

Where the cylinder barrel itself is damaged, corroded, or worn beyond reseal, we replace the tube to bring the unit back to full working order. Off-site repair.

Full Reconditioning

Complete strip-down, clean, full component replacement, pressure test, and rebuild. Restores the cylinder or RAM to as-new condition. Off-site repair.

Hose Replacement

While the machine is already isolated, we can replace any associated hydraulic hoses at the same time — saving you a separate callout.

Any Size or Type

From compact agricultural cylinders to large plant and industrial RAMs. If it’s hydraulic and it’s broken, we can repair it.

Common Questions About Our Cylinder & RAM Repair Service

What is the difference between a hydraulic cylinder and a RAM?

In practice, the two terms are often used interchangeably. Technically, a RAM refers to a single-acting cylinder where fluid acts on one side only. A hydraulic cylinder can be single or double-acting. We repair both — and if you’re not sure which you have, just call us and describe the machine.

Can you repair my cylinder on-site?

It depends on the fault. If it’s a seal issue, our engineer measures the seals on site, sources the correct seal kit, and returns to carry out the replacement — all done at your location without removing the unit. More significant repairs (rod replacement, tube replacement, full rebuild) are carried out at our regional facility and typically turned around within 2–3 days.

How long will the repair take?

For off-site repairs — rod replacement, tube replacement, or a full rebuild — we typically turn work around within 2–3 days. On-site seal replacements are scheduled once we’ve sourced the correct parts following our initial site assessment. We’ll give you a clear timeframe after we’ve seen the machine.

Do you repair all sizes and types of cylinders?

Yes. We work on cylinders ranging from compact units on agricultural and construction equipment through to large industrial and mobile plant RAMs. If you’re unsure whether we can help, get in touch and we’ll let you know.

What if my machine can’t be left out of service?

Let us know when you call — we’ll do everything we can to prioritise urgent repairs and minimise your downtime. In some cases we may be able to advise a temporary solution while the repair is underway.

    Is the repair guaranteed?

All work is carried out to OEM specification and the machine is tested and signed off before our engineer leaves site. Speak to our team for details on warranty terms for your specific repair.

Do you replace the hydraulic hoses at the same time?

Yes — and we recommend it. While the machine is already isolated, it’s a good opportunity to replace any associated hoses that are showing wear. Our engineers carry all the parts needed to make hoses on-site.

Can I buy a seal kit to do the repair myself?

Yes. UK Hose supplies seal kits for a wide range of cylinders and RAMs. If your team carries out your own cylinder maintenance, get in touch and we’ll help you find the right kit for your machine.
